Xylochemistryinvolves the use of wood as the source of raw materials for chemical synthesis and the production of advanced materials & intermediates. Xylochemistry offers a sustainable approach to a modern environmentally-friendly chemical industry that enables the harmonious blending of the material needs of a technical world with the natural environment. Georgia Tech’s ReWOOD Center and the Georgia Forestry Innovation Initiative (GFII) provide efficient technologies available for license to support this harmonization of technology with nature. ReWOOD also offer collaborative memberships enabling the Center to function as an R&D consultant for industries needing specialized technologies. Licensees and collaborators are also granted rights to trademarks that signify our partners concerns for the environment and a sustainable, secure future.

A key technology for ReWOOD and its partners is “kerogenesis-bypass”(trademarked as “Xylyne™”- U.S. Patent Application Nos.:  19/442,376 & 19/442,374). This technology allows woody biomass to be conveniently converted into a series of petroleum-like platform chemicals without the need for high heat & pressure acting over geologic timescales to accomplish similar transformations. Xylyne™ technology places the sustainable forest resource as a renewable starting material for manufacturing and production infrastructures that were previously dependent upon fossil carbon as a starting material.

Join us on the journey! “The Path to a Sustainable Future Runs through the Forest” and we know the way.
